The first thing I wanted to do after the overwhelmingly exhilarating Hollywood Bowl show was get to my hotel room and finish detailing the magic of the latest shows we’d seen on the Tipping Point Tour Part II. I needed somewhere to store all that amazement! I had to talk about it and get it on paper. My goal for the next few days immediately following the tour was to be in full discussion of how awesome everything has been this time around. However, instead of in my hotel room, I found myself in Hollywood Hills with some amazing folks. Moments that followed the show were on par with everything cosmic that happened during this sparkling celestial tour. That little impromptu after party was filled with sublime surprises that made so many of us pinch ourselves wondering if we were even alive. I’ve always been under the impression that amounts of joy like that are only permitted in the heavens. So needless to say, it has been an overwhelming struggle to write because I was stuck on cloud 9!

I literally sat around in awe for weeks after the tour, unable to move thinking back to every moment and wondering if it was all a dream. Now, here we are nearly two months after the Bowl show and I’m still on cloud 9 wondering if it’s even possible to come down from any of this. Tears for Fears sent our spirits soaring into the cosmos, far into the cosmos, well into the great beyond! Here’s a montage of photos and videos from my phone and some from Christine’s, Bobby’s and Shelly’s. Rick has 90% of each show on his phone and will add those to the archives. Also I briefly referenced the Forum in this, I’ll make sure that it gets changed to “The Hollywood Bowl.” Enjoy the reel…it’s about 12 mins of moments…including a visit from an earth angel!
After each show, I try to connect with fans and hear their thoughts. I find that they’re either verklempt in a state of wonderment where they can barely talk because they are so overjoyed by the concert experience or they are detailing nonstop every single element from the show to the point they can barely breathe. There’s always someone with damp hair after dancing so much, one layer of clothing removed and a band shirt over their shoulder or the longtime fan wearing a piece of new merch as they recount everything that just happened…ready to add the experience to their long list of amazing TFF fan moments. Often people are hugging, smooching or walking hand in hand as was the case after the Palm Springs show. I noticed those on the right of me were exchanging phone numbers and going in for the long hugs. There were compliments and praise for people who obviously knew every song and committed to singing each one from start to finish. It was fantastic to see such love. A lady who had flown in leaned over across our front row seats and said to me in a joyful slur of emotion, “Your spirit…it’s amazing! You get it! You understand this band. You didn’t let anything stop you from being here tonight…” she said this and noted my injury. I held her hand for a few seconds and we smiled at each other with that knowing look of ”we just experienced something incredible.” Tears for Fears shows bring out the best in all of us…and can make total strangers the best of buddies by the end of the night.

Let’s back up though. The shows that followed those in Missouri included a lot of fans in the Northeast, Midwest and Pacific Northwest specifically that hadn’t seen Tears for Fears since 1985. Overwhelmed and flabbergasted by how incredible the show was and the fact that Roland and Curt sound as awesome live now as then, a huge number said they decided to just follow the rest of the tour. Several found tickets at the last minute to the remaining shows and went to those too! Next thing we knew, the Hollywood Bowl show was posting “sold out.” Now that’s the definition of a Tears for Fears Travel Fan!
Going to more than one Tears for Fears concert has become a healthy habit for a lot of people. I got notes from fans who even after seeing them more than 3-4 times on this specific tour, got more tickets and went west to catch even more shows. This is the Tears for Fears effect. It is nearly impossible to go to just one show and be okay. You leave those shows feeling so different and in such a good head space that it stays with you for several days if not a few months. People did not want to come down from the concert highs. The Tipping Point Tour had us so far into the cosmos, we experienced the point of no return!

Vancouver and Washington State
The commentary and love were flowing from fans in this region. Many of them went to VIP Soundcheck and enjoyed “No Small Thing,” “Rivers of Mercy” and “The Tipping Point.” A few fans also noted the ticket prices dropped significantly before the show for some of the areas in the back of the venue. Most, of course, had purchased tickets closer to the stage and perhaps the venue wanted to make it as affordable as possible or get their own profit in one way or another by lowering the price? Well, it worked. People called their friends about the lower prices and snatched up the tickets. This made for quite a lovely and loud crowd full of people who knew each other and were dancing around on the lawns and all around the venue.
One of the best moments for us and a sparkling moment for the band included the young man who was singing “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” in his own special way. He did this as he unknowingly walked past the band belting the song loudly. He even made a spiritual reference toward them not knowing that the very earth angels that created that masterpiece were to whom he was speaking. It was a heavenly sign in our opinion and we’re here for it! Love it when the cosmos aligns like that!

Big Mabrook, Mazel Tov and Congrats to the band! That very song, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, just surpassed over 1 Billion streams on Spotify. They got a plaque for it as well. We saw it earlier this week in the rehearsal studio and hope the band will post a photo of it. Thank you Drummer Genius Jamie Wollam and Superfan Admin Danny Cricks for announcing this!
Sacramento
Not sure what was going on with the venue but faithful fans overlooked its remoteness and rocked out regardless! We did hear many on the last part of the tour rather surprised by the inclusion of the cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” vs. the band’s very own “End of Night.” We learned that Roland really likes the song and wanted to sing it and therefore it was included during many shows on the tour. Overall, the sentiment was fans were just happy to be there, excited to see the band and experience soundcheck! Huge shoutout to Lisa who flew in from Atlanta for that show as well as Nicole who travelled from North Carolina.

Palm Springs
Several of us arrived super early for the Palm Springs show. The logistics and travel some went through to get there was unreal. Trains, planes and automobiles…all three methods were used in the same day by many to get to the venue. One person took a train for the first 3 hours, got to the airport and that took a few hours…then the rental car to drive them to the venue. Tears for Fears are just that important. We break the bank to make sure we show up and bask in their energy. Upon arrival there was The Tipping Point structure with chairs stacked and connected just like the album cover artwork. The only thing missing were the cats. It was placed near the main parking lot. I think more would have taken a photo with it had they known it was going to be there. It was a missed opportunity for a great group shot. VIP parking was on the other side of the building which was great for those who needed a less than crowded way to get in and out. However, it seems many missed the structure and, again, that’s rather sad because it was so perfect and would have been highly appreciated by dedicated longtime fans. There was a married couple who literally had their ceremony just before the show and made sure to get a photo by the TTP structure. The bride and groom came to the show in their wedding attire and attended soundcheck. It was really cool.
Serene Soundcheck
Soundcheck was on time. On the List team lead, Brit, was incredible as ever, organized and ready to help us all. Those of us who had mobility issues were treated very well and not neglected in any way. We were able to get in and get seated simultaneous to everyone else. The lights were very low in Palm Springs so it felt like a mini-concert. Roland had his hair pulled back in a bun and was very talkative, telling us about his 4 new guitars. Our ears perked up! Four new guitars!!? Whatcha got cooking, sir? They sang three songs and they were performed so richly in that immaculate ambiance that it just felt like a holy moment. It was just so different from other soundchecks we’d attended. It could be because it was indoors and again, the lights were out and you only saw the band on stage with the spotlights focused on them. It was just surreal really. I look forward to seeing the video from the Nashville/Franklin show so anyone who may not have been able to participate this time around can see the magic of soundcheck. It’s an incredible experience to be in their presence like that. The addition of this opportunity along with the show is really phenomenal. If they offer it in future, and we sure hope they do, just do it. Treat it like a mandatory procedure that you have to have. It’s a whole other world in that moment. It’s different from the concert, it’s like a pre-show conversation and spiritual experience with the band of your dreams.
We did have a sort of mini-meetup. Fans from long time back, including Armen and his wife (Armen is one of the coveted few who got the RATKOS cigar box set back in the day) sat around after soundcheck and had some long laughs and fun conversations about all the wild moments of our fan life. We recounted old interviews the band had done. We discussed those in which we had a hand in as many of us were from media teams. It gave us goosebumps to remember all those magic moments and to think we were all “here” again together supporting the band.
This venue had really comfortable seats. I was so grateful for that. A lot of us have had surgeries on our knees, hips, legs, etc. We have a very diverse number of abilities in the fan club these days – not just from legacy fans but their kids and grandchildren as well. So having a comfortable family experience with cushioned chairs is a big deal. This arena had that and it was very welcomed.
Merch Update
By this point on the tour, it seemed like they were just starting to run out of some of the larger sizes of merch. The 4XLs were not available but there were still plenty of other sizes from which to choose. We were able to meet our needs of extra hoodies and more. I have no idea why I feel like I need to have the same merch at every show but I did go ahead and buy some more stuff just because.
As customary we had front row for this show. We were on the far right (Curt and Charlton’s side). I learned something though…I got the front row seats thinking I wouldn’t have any line-of-sight issues given that I knew I’d have to sit down for most of the performance. However, if you have mobility issues, are not attending for roll call purposes and can’t stand up, it’s best to try and get seats in the center rows (3-5) or otherwise you’ll likely struggle to see over the heads of those who stand up at the rail. Despite my injuries and current condition, I was determined to try and stand up for at least 4-5 songs and managed it with the help of our medical assistant. I wanted to push my wheelchair up next to a speaker and sit next to the security person that is always placed between the stage and the rail. That’ll be the day. I just want to chair dance all night but I know there are rules lol. If that ever changes, IT IS ON! I will dance my arse off wheels, and all.

Cold War Kids did an excellent job as they had the entire tour. They had a lot of great energy and were able to maintain it despite having lost one of their tour team members during their time on the road with Tears for Fears. Their music is really good, and these guys are well versed in the greats of the industry. In Nashville they were wearing some really cool shirts, one sporting a Jazz festival and another in a Grace Jones t-shirt. I know “we’ve come a long way” but wearing those shirts for a show was rather loud and those who appreciate global music noticed it and appreciated them for wearing it. This is definitely a band I want to keep included in our updates and follow just like we’re doing with Arrested Development and Garbage plus other bands that have toured and supported Tears for Fears. These young men are quite special to us and we want them and their fans to feel welcome in our shared space.

The Palm Springs show was extravagant and felt very rich and full, It was just packed with all the musical flavours…robust it was! Everyone was full of energy and so smooth. Several of us have noted that one of our favourite parts of the show is Charlton’s guitar solos. That man is a quiet genius. So modest and humble he is that you just want to sit with him and hear anything he has to say. Watching him light up on stage and smile is one of the highlights of the concerts and tonight was no different. He was just right on point with his musical prowess. I don’t know how they do this or what prayers and chanting they do prior but they just seem to be so steeped in good energy and play so skillfully to the next level show after show. One of the crew members got in touch ahead of time before the tour started and noted, “I don’t know how this is possible, but they sound even better than last year!” Now 2022, had us throwing away crutches and healing from illnesses after their shows because their music was so powerful and permeating. How on earth is it even better? Well, at the Nashville/Franklin show I definitely saw it. It was like watching colourful silk fabric in vibrant shades flowing like a river in a fantasy galaxy. This Palm Springs show felt like a groovy speak easy with an award-winning band. Everyone as far as I could see (and I did turn around a few times to see the sea of fans) was really into the music, the older songs and the new. For me, the best part was hearing people sing along to the new music. Everyone was very familiar with The Tipping Point. I know the band appreciate it but so do those of us who’ve been following this band in person for a long time. We quietly have this extra protective care about their wellbeing and how they are received. So when we saw people singing Break the Man, we were in tears and fist bumping each other after the song because millions of others see TTP as another winner in the band’s vast discography.
Just before the encore, the audience loudly cheered for them to come back. When they got to the stage again you could see the appreciation on Curt’s face as well as others. They could have just sat there and talked about the weather and we’d have still been screaming. There’s just something about this band…I can’t stress that enough. Their energy and their warmth are unmatched. But they did sing us a song…lol. We got to hear Creep and everyone sang it to a tee. We also got Change and of course Shout. It was an added bonus and thrill to see Roland’s face light up when he came to our side and clearly recognized familiar faces. We’re super appreciative of how this team manages to remember people given the millions of fans that they have. It pays to show up folks. Go to as many shows as you can. Be fan family. We’re all in this together. It’s a wonderful time to gather and heal with others. Community is key in life and after being around this band and the fans, I understand it now more than ever. Being a part of a community was something I didn’t think was possible given the ongoing politics in the nation, so I rejected it in my own way at different points in my life. However, after being around Tears for Fears and their fans, I see it on a spiritual level. There is nothing like family – it doesn’t have to be a blood relative, chosen families count and that’s what we’ve got with this band and their fan land.
The closing of the show was like a song itself. The band graciously took a few minutes to wave goodbye, Carina and Jamie gave out drumsticks. Bobby Bblaze was a recipient of one. Shoutout to our newest fan family member, Rick H. who helps me with my medical situation. He took a ton of beautiful pictures and is in the process of editing them. He was a real hero during this tour and we’re so grateful to he and his family.
The only weird thing that happened was the lady who decided to tinkle on one of the light fixtures in the parking lot. I didn’t notice it until someone pointed it out. There’s always one person who does something strange. The ride back to L.A. was about 2 hours and along the way we learned fans that we didn’t think would be able to make it had gotten their tickets and would be coming to the Hollywood Bowl show. We also got to hear from Silver Kitty and that for me was another highlight of the night.
Hollywood Bowl
The day of the show we got to pick up fan family member, Shelly, from North Carolina. She flew in and stayed nearby in Hollywood Hills. We checked in as soon as we got to the venue. Shoutout to the Tears for Fears VIP team, Brit and her folks were ready to go, organized and making sure everyone had their VIP packages. The entrance to the Hollywood Bowl was beautiful! It was super clean with amazing trees that have benches underneath them. The breeze was blowing and it just felt like the most amazing day. I have not felt so comfortable at an outdoor venue. Perhaps it’s the California air and the lack of east coast humidity. I have no idea…maybe local California prayer teams shout praises at dawn making for a blessed day. It’s definitely something out there that I just can’t explain. It felt like we were surrounded by heavenly beings. There was “a presence” that I have felt only at Tears for Fears shows but this time it was even more peaceful than usual.
Within twenty minutes of arrival and enjoying the ambiance and texting fellow fans that I could see them and looked forward to a quick chat, a young man came up to me and said, “I’m here to take you to Soundcheck. I’ll be responsible for you today.” I was wheeled over to a golf cart which I learned was being used for many of the attendees with ADA needs. And within seconds was relocated to a very quiet spot near the stage door. Bobby, Shelly, Rick and I sat there talking quietly and wondering where we were exactly. It was hard to tell. I text the other fans and asked if they had gone in yet and said that I hoped to see them shortly. Danny let me know they were all waiting to go in. To pass the time, we began talking about our appreciation for each singer and how awesome it was to have Lauren Evans in the fold. “I swear I hear her voice right now. It must be in my subconscious,” I said. “Is she coming at all?” Bobby and Shelly asked. But before I could even answer that I wasn’t sure if she’d be in the audience or on stage that evening, I heard her voice again. We could hear the band practicing loud and clear from the area in which we’d been placed and it was such a joy that I thought…”I’m hearing Carina but I’m hearing Lauren too. My ears, heart and soul are all a flux.” We listened carefully and each of us went back and forth with the whole, “now I hear Lauren, now I hear Carina.” I chalked it up to us just loving them so much we were likely hearing them in our psyche. Then we got the signal that it was time to go in. I tried to settle the butterflies in my stomach and remain calm.
Security guided us into the Hollywood Bowl Circle Pool. I was helped out of my wheelchair and there before us stood not just Carina but Lauren and three more incredible contributors including, JJ and Charles Jones. Amazing musicians that were on the album were now on stage. All of us in attendance (especially the longtime fans) were like kids in a candy store with our chins dropped to the ground in awe. Not only were we in the VIP soundcheck again but we were in there with all the band’s energy and joy. It was like a portal opened and we were let in to see the magnificence of it all. It truly felt like a whole other world in that space. The chairs were right up against the stage. You could see every detail, piece of equipment and all the fine things that make up a musician’s moments on stage. Several were in sunglasses as the sun was also enjoying the moment and brightly burning alongside a breeze. We got to hear three songs and lots of conversation. There were waves, nods from everyone and so much of a family atmosphere it was literally overwhelming. But you know, there was also a peace about it. It was a peace that I have only found around this band. My soul was quieted, no anxiety, no pains from injuries, no interruptive palpitations from this damaged heart, no weird thyroid jitters and other things that come from being a human on the mend. I literally felt whole and well. THAT is the reason I believe so many people go to these shows and events. I have often read descriptions about people’s out of body experiences and NDE’s. They talk about the peace they feel. That’s what it was like at that moment in the Hollywood Bowl. It was just an incredible peace and joy that is otherworldly. It is truly a blessed moment.
When the soundcheck completed, one of the On the List members had me turn around. There was Dean and the team that had made these majestic moments happen. They were waving and saying hello. I was offered the opportunity to go over and say hi but I knew the band was busy and I didn’t want to overstay my welcome. So I got back in my wheelchair as fast as I could so we could get out of their way. I do want to take a moment to say these guys are so great. They are so solid and so good at what they do. On the List has totally elevated the Tears for Fears experience. They have made it possible for so many of us to get into that additional realm of joy by organizing these experiences. There will never be enough thank yous in any language to the band and their team for what they have done.
One of the things I was told was that once I was “back there” I wouldn’t have to leave. I thought that meant I’d go to my seat early and stay there the whole time through the end of the show. Nope, it was even better than that. I was wheeled out and placed in a spot adjacent to the backstage door. The security team and those in charge of that area noted we could go get food or whatever we wanted. Awaiting next steps and dinner time, we sat quietly and behaved ourselves while rejoicing over the fact that we’d be seeing “the show of shows” that night. We were still trying to readjust our chins to our faces after seeing that stage full of all that greatness during Soundcheck when the most magnificent things began to happen…

Next thing I know, there’s family members of band members walking by. We nodded politely and stood back at a distance so we wouldn’t be in the way. They, in turn, came closer and waved. Didn’t expect that at all. My eyes lit up underneath my shades and my smile was from here to Abuja. I was like, “how cool is that?!” I was wearing a Japanese street fashion coordinate underneath my black kawaii ruffle jacket and the ruffles caught the eye of one of the kids. They stopped and stared at it and we just smiled and stared at each other. It was such a lovely and cool moment to make that connection. Then more members started walking by and we waved like happy children seeing royalty on parade. It was then that I realised I was backstage. I looked around and noticed this was one of the areas I had read about when I became a L.A. Philharmonic patron when Tears for Fears first went on tour and we heard they’d be at the Bowl in one of the interviews that Roland gave. Did they know in advance that they’d eventually be playing the Hollywood Bowl? That was another topic of discussion during our time in what we called “the sacred space.” We were back there already planning for the future. We waste no time. We were like, “We’ve got a few minutes, let’s chat about 2024 and 2025 – have you heard anything, were there any hints? Do we have the funds in place to do a few shows?” That’s the trick to all this. Strategic planning in advance. While we sat there thinking about everything and in awe of seeing the band members and their families off to the side we decided we wouldn’t go over and say anything – let them enjoy a moment of nosh to themselves – it’s only right. The soul knows when to say hey and when to let the band enjoy a moment of peace.
I should mention that I had no idea I was actually living out a dream. In my dream diary (there are video clips of it in the Tears for Fears Travel Fan Documentary of 2022) there’s a passage from 2021 where I was standing in a backstage area where there were lots of the band’s friends and celebrities. One of their daughters was there and she was leaning on me while talking to someone and I was nodding and listening. I was so confused by that dream. I kept thinking, why are we in this odd spot with all these celebrities? Am I working or volunteering with them or what? It was only a day or so after the Hollywood Bowl show that I realised I had dreamt of this scene before it actually happened. Many who know me have read that diary and it freaks us out every time something actually comes true. If anyone wants to read it let me know. It’s kind of trippy but interesting nonetheless.
Now, here we were, in reality experiencing it all. As we stayed in place peacefully and silently rejoicing it was made clear that we had free reign to walk around and get food but it seemed odd that we were to eat in the same spot as the band, so we waited a little longer until the main concert venue vendors opened. We saw Jamie and Charlton as well. Shelly and I saw Roland walking to get something and at that moment I began “glitching reality.” What does that mean? Often at shows, I have a hard time believing it’s real. It’s hard to believe that I’m not still sitting in my room afterschool with my dolls, homework, books and Tears for Fears’ music on repeat keeping me company. I spent hours daydreaming of being at a concert or being near them and just basking in peace. So every now and again during a show, I close my eyes and sing along then open them to see that very scene that I imagined so many years ago has actually come true. But it causes a mental glitch. I often have to shake my head or take a sip of water because the fact that all those years of daydreaming of being in their presence has now come true is almost too much to bear. Is this really happening? If I close my eyes will I be back in that sad room or will I be at a concert? This is part of my show experience. I glitch reality a lot. So…when the next wildest thing happened, I was in shock. I had been sitting there and I guess I was looking at my phone or folding a piece of merch, I can’t remember but I look up and there’s Curt Smith the Great standing in front of me. He had come over to say hello. I froze.
“Oh my…Ohhhh. Oh wow!” I said. I was barely coherent as I tried to get out of my wheelchair and attempt to stand up to salute him properly. I believe I handed whatever was sitting in my lap to Rick. I was determined to salute this man like the king he is but he kindly and graciously said not to get up. The “glitch reality” began. Is this real? Is this him? Is he really standing right there or am I trying to manifest this into reality? It’s so hard to write about this. You all know me…I was so overwhelmed with gratitude…One would have thought I’d never met him before. I’ve seen him in person and attended his events on so many occasion these past 13 years and each time is even more exhilarating than the previous beautiful encounter. It’s just like seeing an angel in real life. He leaned down and we gave each other a hug.
I’ve read stories about people who have encounters with angels and it felt like that. It felt like…like I was being taken away to the next dimension. It’s no surprise that I felt part of me leave this planet at that moment. Something from my below my shoulders was lifting out and away. I guess a portion of my soul left me. I felt an energy toward my head that leaned forward and lifted away. I guess it went with him as our hug completed. We chatted with him for a few minutes about the venue, the amazing soundcheck and the beauty of the area. Some things I won’t mention for security reasons because it was clear he trusted us enough to tell us that and it probably shouldn’t be broadcast (e.g. home locations, etc). We have a rule, even if you know where they are for the day or where they live, where they like to eat, or whatever it is…we don’t broadcast it. Let ‘em live in peace.
Bobby noted we should take a photo and so I had everyone stand together and then Curt convinced me to join in a picture with him (he knows I don’t take photos lol!) and I’m so glad he did. It’s now one of my favourite photos that I’ve taken with him since joining the fan team on the road 13 or so years ago. After that amazing encounter we tried to float back down to earth but we realised we were never on earth to begin with. This was a whole other realm and we’d be in it for the rest of the month. Our place on Cloud 9 was solidified.

The Concert
Cold War Kids front and center is an experience. These guys are not only super cool and very cute, they also have a lot of soul. Watching them perform was like experiencing the meshing of good energies. They truly support and love each other. They have this habit of connecting with one another during songs. They’ll lean on each other or in one case press their heads together and sing. It’s so touching and warm to watch. Their sound is also extremely soulful and reminds me of a genre of music that started up in 2010 – in the Kenna era with bands like Passion Pit and Foster the People. It has that effervescent energy that you find among people who do not subscribe to political drudgery and participate in social ills. These guys have a purity about them that seems like they just “get humanity.” They were a perfect partner for this tour and again, I’m happy and excited to connect with their fans…and I did. The young lady next to me flat out said, “I’m here for Cold War Kids.” She was from Puerto Rico and she danced her arse off the entire time and I too got into it, chair dancing and singing along to the songs that I, now, know better after attending more than one show on this tour.
A moment of silence for their crew member who perished during the tour. We don’t have any information on it other than he had sustained some serious injuries unrelated to the tour. One of the Tears for Fears team stepped in for him and worked the audio equipment for the remainder of their time on the road. That was really nice. Tears for Fears’ team made sure they didn’t have to scramble to find someone else. We wish them much healing because losing someone is just unspeakably painful. Huge thanks to their team for all they gave on that tour…piano, shaker and all!
After Cold War Kids set, we tried to gather up for group photos but security wasn’t having any of it. Even those of us who were in the Circle Pool were not allowed to go past front row without a wristband. Lady Patty and I were trying to have a conversation and they stopped that. Both Patty and I looked like two sad kids when we couldn’t chat and take pictures. We did manage to get Kai up to the second row for a fun chat.

It’s always great to see her and have her in the fold! Still very grateful to SK for that introduction so long ago. But I didn’t get to speak to Silver Kitty and very few of us got to chat so I was very grateful for the few Tears for Fears fan family conversations I did get to have. Sadly, I didn’t get to speak to Danny, his sister longtime fan sweet Pennie who made us some TFF pillows, nor see his husband Mike. I didn’t get to hug Alisa. But we did text afterwards and everyone had a great time. We got online the next morning after the show and did our usual “omgeeees.” Due to several fans’ various pressing circumstances, the post-tour party plans in L.A. were cut short a bit. We’ll try again with everyone in the future. I think half of us didn’t even know we’d get to even attend shows on the TTP2 tour so the fact we made it at all is enough to be thankful for as a whole.
The Tears for Fears concert began about 30 mins after Cold War Kids and we, packed like sardines, made friends with people we didn’t know there with us on the second row. I got a few more emails to add to our subscription list and as soon as I heard “Stay” I let the newbies on the row know, “They’re about to enter the stage.” We all looked straight ahead and then the heavenly glow emerged followed by the band walking out on stage to all of us screaming and cheering!

It was all the things – a totally cosmic experience and, for once, I allowed myself to accept this was really happening! Here’s the show from a different angle. You can see us all up front, hands in the air and full of excitement. Also, the fashion that night was sublime. Carina, Lauren, the band members, they all looked immaculate. We still haven’t found a way to get one of those lovely brand shirts of Curt’s. We’re working on it. Gotta get our shirt sizes together.

One of the most majestic moments in the show was during “Rivers of Mercy” – a fan favourite on the new album. The crowd was encouraged to turn their lights on and boy did they. From the front row to the last, all lights were on in support of that majestic song. Everyone participated and paid attention. It was absolutely beautiful. Curt even mentioned his reaction in an interview some weeks later.

After the concert, every celeb that has ever shown up in a TFF reference, from Psych’s Shawn (James Roday) to Julian Lennon, were back in the area where we’d been earlier in the day. We waited on the crowd to thin out before leaving and that’s how we saw all these stars. They were all full of “hi and hellos!” We were literally like “omgoodness that’s (insert celeb)!!!” Of all the legends, here comes Lady FP shining like an Angel. She gently made her way through the crowd and we couldn’t help but call her name. She was sweet to turn around and greet us. It is such a coincidence that every lady on my row was wearing one of Tory Burch’s newest scents. It wafted through the first two rows like a sublime rose in a garden in the middle of the cosmic woods under an electric sky. *TB fans, see what I did there? lol.
The Universe blessed me with an opportunity to take some more photos with Lauren, Charles, JJ and team. Was happy to learn Lauren’s family was there. Curt let us know she was a big help getting everyone together for the show. At this point, I want some Carina and Lauren on a t-shirt. But let me not start up my ever growing wish list for dolls and brollies featuring the band. They obliged us with the beach towel this year that a few of us had been begging for and I bought two. One as a security blanket and another for the shrine.

Later on that night, an ADA team gently came and picked us up and took us to the car. I expected to feel like I’d been put back on earth by the gentle hand of The Almighty but no…the dream wasn’t over. We went out for some early “trick or treating” – more like holiday caroling (that’s what we’re calling it) afterwards at some familiar places in Hollywood Hills. Our final stop was a majestic looking cliff that oversaw the city. It was the perfect ending to a therapeutic miraculous healing tour. I spent the rest of my time in L.A. getting treatment for my Lymphedema.

There was another week in Oceanside where I spent time in therapy. That was followed by a few more days through the desert and America’s plains including iconic stops in Roland Town, near Mayfield drive in the neighbourhood of Fort Smith – look it up, it’s a real place. Then I found myself back in the hands of my east coast nurse who said, “Wow, you’re just glowing! You also shrunk!” 40% of the inflammation from this illness was gone. I was literally down 5 inches in overall body circumference. My friends were like, “That music therapy really works for you. Looks like you’re going to have to move to Cali for good!” Something about being in the proximity of Tears for Fears and the ocean…that’s the only thing that has brought forth a quick healing. Nothing else except intense doctor visits has worked. For the millionth time, there’s something about that band. Nowadays, I’m not as dizzy when I stand up and all the weird fevers have vanished. My entire torso is in remission, so I’m convinced Curt and Lauren’s hugs had healing powers. I’ve tracked my progress after every treatment and therapy session. Nothing had changed as drastically as the moments after those hugs. I don’t know what kind of angels they are but there’s something healing about them. Again, I’m convinced. Health is wealth, people. I’m not the only one who experienced it. A few others with chronic illnesses noted they just felt better out there in their presence. I didn’t scoff at music therapy but I never took it seriously. A series of Tears for Fears songs are going to rid me of a debilitating illness that prevents a person from walking? Well, after these past two tours, and being able to reduce my time in a wheelchair, I believe in it! Music therapy is real and it works! Shoutout to Carolyn and so many others including the young lady who stirred out of a coma after her brother played The Tipping Point on a cd player placed next to her ear in her hospital bed. Again, something about that band!
Rescheduled shows followed the stateside tour and we’ll talk about those in just a moment…It’s important to note that while the band was busy on tour, their family members, band family and alumni were also working on some special music extravaganzas.
Simultaneously

Julián Orzabal’s new album, Frequency of Memory was released just after the PNW shows. You can buy it here. Oftentimes, we’ve noted that his sound is great for road trips. This album is a cut above in style from his previous albums. It’s got a dance vibe that makes you want to open the sun roof and start “dancing with your memories” all puns intended. Check out that track on the album with a similar name. It’s definitely a favourite. This album is worthy of looping. Add it to your shuffle and be sure to leave a review! He’s also partnered on a musical endeavour with The Upside Down Clinic. Listen to their latest…
Also with new music is his amazing nephew and Roland’s son, Pascal (Quarterboy). His album is another that is hard to turn off because it’s so good. It gets into your system and you find yourself unwilling to turn it off. I dare to admit I kept it on all night a few times. I just couldn’t and wouldn’t turn it off. Really enjoying this. That family and band supply it all!

The artists in the family are hard at work. If you haven’t been following the incredible work of Roland’s son, Raoul, be sure to see the latest from Raoul Orzabal’s art collection that he shares on Instagram and Facebook weekly. He has prints for sale and several of us own a few. They are absolutely phenomenal!
Lady Wilder Angel
Lady Wilder’s senior year preparations were immediately following the tour. While we were all in a panic about the local weather and possible land slides affecting band members in Cali, dear Curt was far away in another state helping his sweet angel get ready for her last year of Uni. Good gracious, where did the time go? We’re keeping all their children, siblings and family in our prayers and well wishes as they launch into their next steps in life.

Lady Diva Smith
Lady Diva has been delighting us with her heavenly voice for over 2 years. She released a really well-done piece of work called “Bet” and it was available on Spotify for a while. We can’t find it anymore on that platform so we’re going to check Apple Music. Don’t really want to bother her parents about where to find it but if anyone has a link where it can be streamed on a loop and she’ll profit from it, let us know. She’s been invited to lots of events it seems and delivering amazing performances! She’s really good!

Tears for Fears Alumni

Oleta Adams
Our dear Royal Lady Oleta Adams was planning a show for November during this time. Sadly she came down with Covid and so it’s postponed until December. Be sure to get tickets for that if there are any available. We’re happy she’s on the mend!

James Colah
Our dear Mr. Colah, who toured with the TFF supporting band The Adventures during Tears for Fears ’85 tour has been super busy. He noted the following to fans, family and friends on his latest post:
Dear Friends I’m really excited to announce that ‘Mother River’ featuring, ‘Sujatha’ is now available on YouTube. Please click on the link in the comments section!
“Mother River” is the first original song released as part of Sujatha’s “The Electronic Music Project”, in collaboration with award-winning producer, composer and arranger James Colah.
All lyrics/vocal melodies composed and performed by Sujatha.
All music composed, performed, produced, mixed and mastered by James Colah at James Colah Productions Studio, UK.’
The piece is a fusion of electronic and ethnic music, combining ethnic-Indian vibe, English and Sanskrit lyrics with electronic music arrangement. Saraswati Maa is goddess of music, creative arts and wisdom and by listening to or singing along Sanskrit shlokas, we bring positive vibration to the planet and help to open heart of humanity. The mission of this project is to bring more true joy and love to the world and celebrate life in new, conscious way. Much love to all!
A Moment of Silence

Also during this time, we as a fan family recognize the power of pets and pups in our lives. Puppy Ivy Smith & Tamara’s Lord Seymour of Nash passed away in the final days of the tour. We learned of Lord Seymour’s passing the day before the Palm Springs show and of Ivy’s passing not long after the Hollywood Bowl concert. It was gut wrenching. We hope that all souls of the former living are in a peaceful place recognizing each other (and in their case, having a big bowl of Puppy Chow with Bella Ivy and Bobo). For those who don’t believe in it or have never had a supernatural experience, we thank you for your kindness and support for those who have. The Universe doesn’t begin and end with earth and we hope that all will have a peaceful experience navigating these journeys.

Speaking of peaceful journeys and the cosmos…the great beyond. I feel The Tipping Point helped us take another look at the next dimension and the line between our earthly existence and that of which happens when we step out of it due to illness or the myriad of ways one leaves this body behind. Even before the album we’ve had conversations with individuals who have felt a sort of universal cosmic pull in the midst of a show. One young man was quoted in a newspaper as saying, “I don’t know if I saw G-d or Tears for Fears just now.” This was right after the Shaky Knees Concert in 2019. That whole show and the days that followed were absolutely filled with spiritual happenstance.
The band has a lot of fans who are spiritual fam. One awesome fan family member is Rabbi Ryan who sent in another awesome video. Any time he is out and hears a Tears for Fears song he kindly sends us a video. He has no idea how excited we get to see those texts come in with he and his family dancing along to Tears for Fears music being played by an appreciative band!
So…before long it was time to go “Back to London!”
The Pryzm show that was postponed last year due to the passing of Her Majesty the Queen did indeed take place as promised. Following that show was the BBC Radio 2 in the Park with Tears for Fears headlining. Both shows were just absolutely incredible and so many fans from the Tears for Fears Travel Fan team and the Tears for Fears Fan Forum on Facebook came out to support and show their love for the band. Big shoutout to Sean Kennedy, Darren Hull and our beloved Fan Ambassador of 2022, Stephen Marshall who were on hand taking pictures, recording snippets and ensuring everyone who couldn’t be there in person was still able to be a part of the experience. Huge THANK YOU TO CURT SMITH who took time out after the show to shake hands, pose for photos with fans and sign autographs. They had a crazy schedule that week with interviews and more but he still came out and represented the goodness of the band with this incredible gesture! Thank you, Curt!!! Huge thanks to the band for always going the extra mile and for keeping the UK close to heart.
As usual, many experienced the superfanitis following the London shows. It’s just part of the experience. Once you get in their feel good realm, it’s hard to go back to the reality that is earth. We hear you Lidian! We really do!
“Sorry if I am still dreaming about this… does anyone know why are they so magic? I had no idea the post-gig would give grieving vibes ” -Lidian Bonfa
Kudos and high fives to those who flew in from Boston, San Diego, Idaho and North Dakota to be in London for those shows. That was a huge gesture of love and devotion to the band. Also read here about Patricia G.’s experience of flying out to meet up with fans and enjoy the show!
On the Radio
Nihal Arthanayake’s interview that followed was one of the best follow-ups we’ve heard yet. He is a phenomenal journalist and on air host that does his homework. As mentioned before, he doesn’t go down the list of the same old questions that far too many radio hosts have asked. He did another deep dive. Try to get a listen if you haven’t already. We probably should have recorded that because it’s now archived and we, the public, do not have access to it. In the interview Roland spoke about more music coming from their vast unpublished works. No timeline given, just a note that, yes, they plan to give us even more audible gems.
There were additional interviews that followed including a BBC Radio 2 interview and a Tim Burgess post talked of another listening hour… then Mr. Burgess of The Charlatans UK made good on his word. Listen to the podcast…

Radio Bath had a replay of Dave Mason’s 2022 Tears for Fears – Curt and Roland Brotherly Love Interview on the 22nd of September. Dave Mason also had a birthday on the 16th of November! Many happy returns to him!
*Moving forward, we’ll save those audio files as the radio stations don’t always keep the day’s broadcast for more than a few months or so. We want to make sure everything is preserved so we’ll go back to capturing that audio and store it in the archives.
More Band Family News
Jamie Wollam
So, just after all these amazing music moments, long time fan family member, Yara N. ran into Drummer Genius Jamie at an event where ABC’s Andy Carr was featured. From what we understand, Jamie may have been a guest drummer at the show. Seeing these three in the same space was pretty darn cool. Many of us are ABC fans and the band supported Tears for Fears during the 2019 UK shows. Big thanks to Yara for staying on the scene and supporting the band and their friends in music.

Carina’s show in January
Carina Round will be playing a sold out show on the 18th and 19th of January at The Echo in Los Angeles. The show sold out pretty quick. She’s going to do her album “The Disconnection” in its entirety both nights. That’s a treat! Again, it’s sold out but it looks like there are some verified resale tickets on the Live Nation site. There will be VIP opportunities as well.
Lauren’s collaborations and possible Q&A

If you’re following Lauren on Instagram, you’ll see she’s apart of some really incredible music collaborations and has a plethora of incredible music friends including one of her besties, Kitten Kuroi, who just toured with Billy Idol. Lauren is definitely one to watch and enjoy online as well as in person. She’s got exciting things in her IG stories. She also has a very dedicated fan base embedded in the Tears for Fears fan family. Sharron Foxx hosts a fan group dedicated to all things Lauren. You can join here. Lookout for a possible Q&A in the future.
A Deeper Look Into Fan Land
One of the reasons we have such a good time on the tours and are able to connect is due to the endless work of the behind the scenes teams. Let us take a moment to appreciate the group and page administrators.
Danny Cricks has been a Tears for Fears fan since day one and currently manages the Tears for Fears group on Facebook. Throughout the tours he announces reminders and provides countdowns so that busy fans can stop and take a moment check on their VIP passes and remember to get ready for shows. Thanks to Danny we get our anniversary of shows and albums celebrated each year He is the concert husband of Kim H who has worked on numerous events and fan activities over the years – all the way back to the Soul on Board days. You’ll find that Danny is a humble man, very modest and friendly. And you better believe that he is out here supporting the band by going to multiple shows. He is that kind of fan! Love you Danny!
Darren Hull is the newest administrator for the Tears for Fears Fan Forum. He took over this group some years ago and renamed it to reflect the goal of this service. In this group you’ll find a crossover from other groups. Discussions on shows, upcoming events, wish lists and a weekly show and share featuring the growing collection of merchandise and souvenirs from past and present shows. Darren provides live videos from concerts, band Q&As as well t-shirts for fans to wear and identify each other at concerts and events. The fan forum also includes a few members of the band.

Sharon Foxx recently joined in the world of administrators creating groups that focus on the band members. Sharron has a lovely group that highlights Lauren Evans and all her work with the band as well as her ongoing success as a musician. We’ll likely have a group Zoom call at some point. No promise of band members and family joining that call. We’re just doing a check in and we’re happy to have a safe place to host it. Thank you Sharron!
Shoutout to Angel Jones who recently created a group for Tears for Fears and also has one dedicated to Curt Smith and The Korgis. She also reported and helped remove some unsavoury lies and rumours in an unofficial band account’s video on YouTube. These ladies alongside Carolyn H., Sheila S., Heather and Dave H. all host admin Facebook groups where you can find a variety of focus – from making friends, to expressing gratitude and even collecting and swapping iconic merch. These admins keep the conversations going and help support the ever-growing number of Tears for Fears fans. I dare say, without these opportunities to interact, we’d probably not have as many “in the know.”

Also very grateful for Sujit who is currently in Japan. He flew in for the shows in Western Canada. We love what he has done to preserve his VIP goodies. He writes:
“Over a month since I saw the @tearsforfearsmusic concert in Vancouver and I can’t stop shaking my head in how great it was. The drummer @jameswollam captured them coming back for the encore and I did a screen grab (hope it is okay). The crowd was going crazy and you can see one in the front row who was especially in nirvana! I am definitely one of this group @tfftravelfans!”
Big Hello to Yaseen from Kuwait/London!! He always offers a kind word!
With that, you are encouraged to connect with the Tears for Fears Travel Fans and various groups that support attending shows and events with the band as they light up DarkerWavesFest this weekend in Huntington Beach, CA. It’s tomorrow, Saturday, 18 November and it’s also sold out but some hotels were offering general admission tickets. If we can’t get in, we’ll sing from the hotel balcony!
Thanks for reading!
Be sure to follow the band’s official account @tearsforfears @curtsmith (Facebook & X/Twitter), @tearsforfearsmusic @curtsmithofficial (Instagram) and you can also find them on Threads. See you at the shows!
Much appreciation to Patty, Nicole, Anthony, Daniella and the magnificent Christine! We see you!

Sincere apologies to those who were eagerly awaiting all the footage and notes from Curt’s wonderful appearance at IKAR shul on 25 September, 2023. We have the video completed and a write up about that incredible service. However, due to the events that occurred recently and ongoing escalated catastrophes in the region, we’ll share it when we feel it is safe. IKAR is a safe place, a home of diverse humanitarians led by a leadership that works toward and wants the absolute best for everyone vs just one group of affected people. Sadly, far too many are caught up in the divisive rhetoric and aren’t hearing voices of reason who are working to heal and unify a region in turmoil. So, we’ll find the right time and place to share the joys of that beautiful day when it’s safe again. We have so much respect for those interfaith speakers that were there that day, 25, September, 2023. They showed how beautiful it is to be together and filled with gratitude and reverence for that mystical space we call the spirit world. Looking forward to being with them there in person. Gargantuan thanks to Chazan Hillel Tigay and Curt Smith for leading the music for such a beautiful time of year. What an amazing day!
